Country Highlights - Day 9


Another amazing highlights from so interesting activities :) enjoy reading them! 

Azerbaijan

Within 10 DoA campaign Y-PEER Azerbaijan Peer Educator Suliddin Baghirov held a 1 day awareness-raising session on HIV/AIDS in Ganja, Azerbaijan. The event aimed at raising awareness of local youth about HIV/AIDS, ways of HIV transmission and protection, symptoms and importance of combating stigma and discrimination, associated with it. 15 young people, representing various universities, youth clubs and NGOs attended the session.

India

Publication of Article- Demanding Sexual and Reproductive health and Rights
The well recognized print media circulating in Patna came up with an article based on the “Template Letter to Decision Maker”. This was done to start a discussion among youngsters on the issues- Demanding involvement of Youth in youth related decisions, Demanding Sex and Sexuality education in Schools and Demanding Youth Friendly Health Services. The data gained through the online Survey “My Pinion Matters” under the 10 DoA and also another survey back in Patna was also used to provide base to the demands. Lebanon

Discussion Group was held in Lebanon.  The Lebanese Red Cross Emergency Medical Service In Tyr discussed topics related to HIV/AIDS between them and they shared stories about their experience with positive diagnosed people. They also shared their experience with the new members between them and they consist about their humanitarian responsibilities toward the needed people.
 The results were the experience shared between them and they shared their information with each other.

Mongolia

The meeting of Y-PEER committee group members and Mrs. Odontuya.S, member of the national parliament.
We decided that we have to meet Mrs. Odontuya.S who is the most affective female parliament member in this new elected parliament in Mongolia. One of the initiatives of the “10 Days of Activism Campaign” is to mobilize young people to contact decision makers in their communities to lobby for a rights-based youth centered development agenda. We mobilized the parliament member to collaborate with young people and to be attended them in decision making process.
We, as a young people, we are  supporting these calls,
        Collaborate with youth organizations among youth related  issues and policy ; and emphasize the participation on the issue
        The ministries’ and NGO’s investment in programs that enable young people to claim their rights, including sexual and reproductive rights.
        Enhance the standard and content of comprehensive sexual education in secondary school and increase efficiency of teacher to conduct training in new and participatory approach.
        Collaborate with NGOs which is working with adolescent and young people and make conference in once 3 months.
        Establish the institution of receiving women’s right conflicted application by female Parliament members.
        Provide sexual and reproductive health information or services to young key targeted and disabled people.
        Promote the number of organizations which keep secret, preference human right and serve youth friendly services and

We have attended the meeting with Semjidmaa.Ch, the executive director of MFWA, Munkhtsetseg, the youth program officer of MFWA and Odontuya. D, the coordinator of Y-PEER Mongolia, Uyanga. B, Chinzorig, Batdavaa.B, the committee group members as youth reprensentatives, personal assistant and youth program officer of Mrs. Odontuya.S.
She said that she will lobby for the next year’s budget of Mongolian government on establishing health cabinet in secondary school.
Also, she promised that she will become our representative in Mongolian government.

Morocco


Workshop on AIDS and STIs
Young still looking information on sexual health on the internet and sometimes lack of experience they find false information which generates a set of risk behaviors among youth.
For this reason, the Moroccan Organization of peer education “OMEP” held a workshop on research methods on Net with a set of young university in Kenitra.s
The workshop was divided into 3 sessions:
- Session 1: Methods of research on the internet: a presentation was made by Houssam Eddine SOUIDI which is a youth educator Pair, which explains for 30 minutes every practical technique to find information on the net as well as verification of reliability of information material on AIDS,STIs.
-Session 2: Pre-test knowledge of young people about AIDS and TIS: Hicham Jeddoudi a young trainer Peer educators conducted a brainstorming to evaluate the level of young people in the area.
- Session3:  A detailed presentation on AIDS,STIs: This session was facilitated by two young using a PPT presentation, Videos and pictures.
Young people responsible for this workshop enclose this workshop by role playing or participants practice their knowledge and skills to transmit information to other peer.

Oman

Y-PEER Oman Joined a Omani Group Called “ Clean Up Oman “ in The Omani Culture Club , To Discuss and Learn how it is Important For Youth To Participate in Saving the Environment and How it is Important to Raise Awareness in Schools For Kids and how can Y-PEER Help in Rising Awareness for the Youth in School From age 15 to 17.
In the Workshop we discovered that Youth In Oman Need to Be aware and Y-PEER Oman should be more involved in helping them.

Pakistan

A training session on SRHR has been conducted in Tehsil Municipal Hall Mian Channu. In which 41 young people (from different Govt./Semi Govt. Organizations) has been participated. The training started from 09:00 a.m. in the Morning with the introduction of the activity and participants. Mr. Khurshid Manzoor introduced the activity and briefed about the 10 Days of activism. Then Mr. Umer Draz Khan Conducted the 1st session of Workshop in which he has spoken about reproductive Health rights and shared some important information about Sexual Health. After tea break session started with an energizer, after that Mr. Abdul Ghafar conduct the session on the topic of “how our youth are facing problems about SRHR’ in which everyone participated and they shared their own opinions.  In the end Ms. Ayesha Bibi conducted a Questions/Answers session. The session was much informative and young participant show their interest about it. A big number of the stake holders and Civil Society networks were also attended the event and evaluated it with a very positive feedback.  

Somaliland

Somaliland Youth PEER education organized a two days advocacy meeting in which 40 young people from 8 Hargiesa universities of Hargiesa and attended. In this meeting young people focused on the challenges they face and the laws that against to their participation and also emphasized that they should participate all kinds of decision making process.  Young people agreed advocate for the removal of any laws in Somaliland that are barriers to youth participation in decision making process and speak out until decision makers recognized the importance of their participation.

Nepal

A workshop on “ASRH” was conducted by NEEHD at Kantipur International College, Budhangar, and Kathmandu, Nepal. Among the participants were the students of BA Business Administration, both male and female of the age group from 18 to 21. They actively participated in the interaction program for 2 hours and very enthusiastically exchanged their view points regarding the adolescents’ sexual reproductive health in the Nepalese context. The participants shared their ideas they learnt from the various
The ASRH status of Nepal is very poor and degrading .It should be improved as soon as possible in order to meet with MDG by 2015.The participants have raised certain essential issues to be addressed so as to upgrade the ASRH status in this country.
 1.The Government should maintain the overcrowd in public vehicle that causes sexual violation to female gender
2. ASRH should be included in course of studies from School level
3. Gender equity and women empowerment are highly required in order to improve women condition.
4. There must be a good communication between parents and children regarding the changes the adolescents’ face.
5. Concepts of coeducation, Informal education and safe use of contraceptives and methods should be introduced.
6. Special awareness programs need to be conducted in order to keep the adolescents’ safe from the sexually transmitted disease such as HIV/AIDS etc. , and to make the guardians, teachers or senior citizens understand that they need to talk openly without any hesitation to the teen agers regarding the ASRH.
